Nine months and a couple days ago...

ello again!

Our favorite hermana has written us, again. As always, we are happy to hear from her.

In case you haven't heard...Baby London Mae, was born on Wednesday, September 16th at 8:29 PM in Utah Valley Regional Medical Center.(where her dad and two uncles were all born) She is beautiful...she kind of reminds me of her aunt Amy, when she was a baby.
So, we are glad that Amy has her camera but, we wish that she would give it a good talking to so that it would work right!

It sounds like she and Herrmana Maas are doing well. They are certainly cleaning a lot AND, having interesting conversations!

I hope you are all well and enjoying your fall weather. I love this time of year! I love sunshine and pleasant days!

I was eating Lasagna with my family, or quite possibly running in to that first missionary moment in the MTC. So touching! And now I´m here in Padre las Casas with no wallet and a Camera that keeps erasing my photos. YES! Really, though, Me an Hermana Mandy Maas are cheerfully Gringa and attracting a lot of attention with her 5´9 stature, blond hair and brilliantly blue eyes. ...plus my not black hair and blue eyes helps too.

We are rockin´this town... or at least, we will be.

Last week I got a cold, and we spent a LOT of time cleaning house. I knew the house here was pretty bad, but was overall overwhelmed by the mess when I got there, and generally tried not to contribute to it or anger my almost as easily upset as to laugh Mexicana compañera. Haha... But Hnita Maas would just not put up with it, so we spent a lot of last week cleaning the walls with bleach solution and killing the ants. ... That really does sound horrible now, but it really is a cute little tiny house! ...Now. Haha!

Yes, well... with that, and the 18th of September and lots of drunk people and such, we pretty much did the work in a much more subdued form. We still had Adriana in Church sunday, and we still talked to a good ten drunks... Funny, weird, and harmless drunks with the help of a very watchful heavenly Father. One guy would like pause when we´d ask him questions and stare off into the sky for a minute and ask questions to either God or his dead ancestors or both...

Hna Maas: What was your name?
Guy: Hold on... (stares intently at the clouds for about 2 minutes) Okay, He told me I could tell you. My name is Marcos. Do you know what Marcos means?
Both of us: No...
Me: But he´s an apostle!
Marcos: It means Roman.

...And so forth. We really enjoyed that, though he talked for far too long and never let us really get an edge in. He also told me I´d be a Pastor one day, and that Hna Maas would have very pretty children one day.

...Anyhow. My camera is found, but again the computer refuses to read it. Seems to think it´s some kind of virus. Aaand... my wallet is still missing, but it only had my Chilean ID card and my Debit and mission credit card, plus about ten bucks in it, so I´m good. Sort of. Can´t buy my Traditional Chilean Dress until I have money again, though. :/

Mom question time!

So, tell me(us) about Hermana Maas. Where is she from? Colorado!

Convert or BIC? Hermana Maas´s parents both served missions. Her mom in Germany and her Dad in ... PAraguay? I think. Her Dad went to Bonneville High.

Number of siblings? 3. one sister and two brothers. She´s number 2.

Hobbies? ...UUuuumm.... laughing? At me? And cleaning house. And killing ants. And listening to music.

Yup. Stuff like that.

Yay Hermanas! Yay Conference!

Yay Hermanas Conference!

Soooo... today I am doing my internet in a little town on the otherside of Temuco called Fundo el Carmen with my new companion, and "blood sister" Hermana Miranda Maas. Hermana Maas was also trained by my trainer/Mother Hermana Nuñez, and she´s also a gringa so we´re pretty darn excited. We´re gonna get all started at for 6 weeks or so... because she is blonde as they come, and doubles it with a blue eye combo for a Chileno noticing factor of approximately 99.8%. Mix that in with my brown hair and blue eyes and we´re pretty much a magnet for stalkers. YES. I am so excited. But don´t worry, when you´re in the Lord´s work, the Angels really do protect you and the stalkers are usually harmless. Just annoying. Luckily in Padre las Casas, there are more people with German and other European blood, so our whiteness doesn´t catch as much attention as it would have in Hualpen.

Hermanas Conference was great. I took pictures with all my companions, minus my mommy who has been home in Santiago long enough that she´s now got a job, a calling in the church, and, quite possibly, a boyfriend. Unfortunately, I seem to have lost my wallet, my camera, or both. :\ Hopefully in the Mission Home. Sigh.

But it really was great! I got letters from Brian, Sam, Becky, Mom, and Rob! Yay! It made me very happy. And we talked about lots of struggles we have and how we can apply what we already know and teach our investigators to help us. (duh) But that´s basically what every conference in the church is about. Applying what we already know.

We all slept over at the mission home which was fun and also a bit rule-bending since we all were up past 11, our scheduled bedtime. But it was great. Like old times. We ate yummy chicken and lots of fruit, which made me happy, and took lots of pictures... which is now strangely depressing, since I`m not sure where my camera is. :( Activities? We played a fun getting to know each other game where we all told Hermana Swenson stuff that not many people know about us and then we all got copies and had to figure out who was who. Only hermana Holt remembered that I was almost a twin. Thanks, Mom, for that one. I always use it in games like that. Yes!

So, Baby Bishop is still not born?! I´m not gonna lie. I´m a little bit upset. Silly little London! But that´s okay. That just means she´ll be even younger, cuter, and more impressionable to love me when I get back. YES!

Oh! I can really get a dress made?! Oh no! It´s a bit late now, but there are still some places I can get it done. Hna Holt has one and it´s TOTALLY ADORABLY purple and green. And it made me real jealous, no lies. Sooo... Sweet! Unfortunately... my wallet missing thing DOES seem to be a problem. Uh. Oh. Suppose I can still have one made for me when I find it, it´ll just be late for the Ward Party.

No... I have not lost weight. :\ I have gained. But I´m doing my morning excercises... most days. 130 crunches every morning and some other aerobic activity is pretty good, isn´t it? Plus walking up and down the hills of Padre might help. I just... don´t send you pictures where I look fat. That´s the beatiful thing about digital. Mwahaha. But, um... yeah. not telling you how much I´ve gained. We´ll just keep you on your toes. I´d like to know about the thumbdrive soon, because I´m pretty sure all the photos randomly erased themselves again. :( But wait... you didn´t get photos last week? That´s lame.

I did print some out first though. Maybe I´ll mail one home.

I think that´s about it. I´m still working in Padre, just helping Hna Maas pack up in her old sector before we go back. Hna Mexicana Cuellar is now in Villa Acero, the ward neighboring my first ward in Cerro Verde. Other than that--- life is good. The Work goes forward.

So the weekly report of the Amyable news are as follows:

I am generally sorry for the sudden drop in letter-writing from yours truly, but I amyably wrote two happy marriage days and many birthday cards in the last few months, plus struggled to reply to your happy letters. But you are not forgotten. Wrote Melanie a letter today, but I don´t have her China address... and I still have Monica St... Broadhead´s happy Wedding Day card waiting for an address... so, in case anyone knows where she´s at or at least her parent´s address, you are all SO in need to send it to me.

Matias and Evelyn are so happy. They´re about to move out of the ward, but they´re gonna keep coming here even though we think they should go to the ward closer. It´s easier for them to come here because the buses pass by here more often. MAtias came to Stake Conference yesterday wearing the "Called to Serve" tie we randomly found him in a thrift store, and his mom in a skirt. So cute! The photos are from their baptism... though in all of them, Evelyn looks a little funny... and I don´t look much better. Elder Bartel took better photos, but I don´t have his camera. Oops.

Oh... as to the title, we´re fast approaching two very important days. 1. My 9-month mark.

9 months is traditionally the half-way mark for a sister missionary, but seeing as my mission will be 19 months, I´m good for another half a month. lol. BUT... it is still weird and slightly frightening and still very happy to know that I´ve served a good 9 months... but there´ll be an even better 10 more!!

2. 18th of September, the Chilean independence day and lots of empanadas and pretty traditional dress and the like. I think I´m going to buy Ashby and London small dresses, because in the end the two smaller ones will both be cheaper than a large one for myself. :( They´re quite pretty.

So... life is good here in Temuco. I have yet to take a good landscape shot for you, Mom and friends, but I´ll get one. I´ve got to.

Thanks for the letters and the love and the prayers. I know I´m in them, and I only hope I can keep true to them. Got letters from Dad, Michelle, Elder Zelenski and Janet this week. --And I´m still getting Elder Sly´s weekly report. His mom sent me one too.

Here is another week of e-mails from our favorite, & only, Hermana Loveless! She is doing very well! I think that we are all going to need to send some pictures. Maybe, she will get the idea that we haven't seen her new companion...I think. I hope that all of you are well. I include my dear hubby, as he is in Palmdale, Ca. He won't return until Friday. He left Utah yesterday afternoon. Our new granddaughter is due to be born on Sunday. Her nana(her dad-Ryan's mom) is coming to Utah on Friday. Soooooooooooo, hopefully, we will have fun news and details of our new family addition.

Yay! Yeah, we went really early to check e-mails and then spent too much time doing other stuff to come back and finish, so... sorry! The baptism went well! The spirit was so strong that there were many wet eyes and even Evelyn cried a bit, she was so excited to finally be baptized! Matias was also baptized, of course! I would send photos, but p-day is officially over and I gotta go.

Money Business

Hello everybody!!! So, another Monday has come and will go very soon! I will apologize to all of you for her business part of the letter. I do now remember that we sent her new ATM card in her package. It didn't even occur to me that we needed to activate it when the package arrived. Oh well, it is done now and she will be back in business. So, I hope that each of you are well and working hard! I know that most of the colleges have started their fall semester.(around here, anyway) The best of luck(actually...work really hard). Michelle and I both went back to school. The kid's first day was today and our group had a pretty good day! I have stopped my paper route and Stacy is now the carrier! Yay, for both of us!(obviously, for different reasons!) Have a blessed week! Love, Mike and Karen :D Dear People of Awesomeness- Note to all: Sorry for the relative boringness of this letter. I didn´t eat anything weird this week, and I haven´t written anyone in several weeks, so I´m being lame. Next week there will be letters. And excitement. No worries. So, first of all, Mom, Hope you get all my debit card stuff figured out. I sent the mail real vague-like, and I appologize, but It´d be really cool to be able to know all that stuff... hope my email made enough sense. Basically I bought a new skirt for about ten bucks to replace the brown skirt I´ve had for ages because there was this big sale of long skirts and I know it´ll be really hard to find one in summer... haha. So I tried to use my new debit card but the ATM always denies me. I dunno if it has a new PIN or what, but it´s denying me and junk and I just wanted breakfast for the week. ;) But don´t worry, I´ll live. Mom says: A Mexican with gastritus? Is that possible? Don't they go from milk to salsa? Amy answers: Basically. And that´s why she has it. Too much salsa in a growing stomach doesn´t do a body good. Mom says: Mackenzie Romero had been a TX reporter for the Standard Ex and had done some study about college students and newspapers. Anyway, the editor wrote that she would be gone for a year and a half serving a mission in Guatemala(I think). Hermana Loveless: Yay! Becky told me that she was turning her papers in, but I didn´t know where yet because I haven´t written her back yet. (oops) Mom says: Do you want a birthday package OR would you like me to see what your siblings can afford and then, I could make a deposit into your account. Let me know. I figure that I should get working on that soon as your birthday will be in about 2 months. Wow! Um... Um... um... I dunno. Packages are real expensive. But real fun. But... money in my account would probably be more useful. I want to start cashing away to buy you all awesome souvenirs when I go home. I already have ideas for most of the family. And though birthday money should be used for birthday things, I definately know I probably won´t have much money left over for souvenirs in 9 months. Photos would be highly appreciated. Tell Michelle she can totally send me photos, and other people as well. Love photos. I´d especially love to see baby London with Ashby photos when the day rolls around. EEK! NIECES! Eating Horse Meat

Hello everybody!!!

It sounds like Amy & Mike and Hermana Cuellar are doing very well! We have had a great week. Lots of parties AND we got to spend some time with our cute Great-niece, Natalie Waldron. Cheryl is due on Sept 6th so, we had a shower at one of her neighbor's homes today. We hope that all of you are well and are keeping our cute great nephew, Derek Sheldon, in our prayers as he is having surgery on his tear duct on Wednesday.

So, first off, I need to put it in the record books... I ate horse meat last Saturday. It´s actually relatively normal here, but more like a delicacy because it´s more expensive than steak. So our investigator, Evelyn, was all sorts of excited to cook some up for us. I couldn´t say no, mostly because I´d never tried it, but... it made me feel a little sick just thinking about eating my favorite animal. But, um... I did it. And I didn´t throw up.. and it pretty much just tastes like steak, just like Dad always told me. So... I´m trying to follow dad´s mission footsteps and such. All that´s left now is to condemn some catholic priest in joke format, and I´m good, minus the french. Though I HAVE spoken in French here. People find out I know it and want to practice with me... but truth be told, it was the worst french I´ve ever spoken.

Yaaaay, Family Reunion!! I´m so excited to hear about all the places you guys are looking at for next year. It makes me feel a bit pleasantly trunky to think about going home to 100 degree Loveless Family Reunion Waterfight LOVE. But don´t worry, I´m so focused. Except the other night I dreamed you guys came to visit me. Ashby and everything! It was weird. So... It didn´t actually make me trunky. Just weird. Lol.

MOM QUESTIONAIRE!

!!! So, are the tacos that you made last week like the tacos that we make??? or the ones at the little stands??? OR ??????

Hna Cuéllar tacos are mexican. And, really, Mom, I don´t know if I´ve tried taco stand tacos. :-O But it was meat with lots of seasoning, refried beans, guacamole, tomatoes, onions, and... I think that´s it. She said it´s not real common to put lettuce in. And she can´t eat hot stuff ´cause she´s got gastritus, therefore we didn´t make salsa. But it was good.

So, can you tell me more about Temuco/??? I like the idea of rolling Irish hills and cool distant volcanoes(like Shasta & Mt St. Helens???). Oh, is it a big city, or more like a town??? I am imagining a kind of neat place.

It is SO picturesque, Mom! I just don´t have any nice photos yet because I don´t really feel comfortable stopping proselyting just to take a photo. Especially when there are people all around. But yes, the volcanoes do look a lot like Mt Shasta or St Helens. The only snow I see is there. But I´ve heard that the snow isn´t too far away, cause we´re closer to the mountains. Temuco itself is pretty big. Not as big as concepcion, but still... like Ogdenish sized. The rest is residential, but... I still haven´t sent you a photo of a typical residential area in Chile, so you probably have no idea what that looks like. ...Nothing like North Ogden. Lol.

Can you tell me a little more about your companion and your area that you are working in???????????

Hna Cuellar is from Nuevo Laredo, Mexico... which is right next to Laredo, Texas. She says they do almost all their shopping at Sam´s Club and the mall just accross the border because they have visas that allow them to visit the states for as long as two days at a time. Her brother is an official US Citizen and lives in Dallas with his American wife. :D

***Have you gotten your package yet???

YES. And a letter from Melanie my Love Smith and Jason my brother Loveless and more. I am currently wearing Stacy´s handiwork, as is Hna Cuellar. And I wear my patriotic socks to bed every night to keep my feet warm and comfy when they lack Lacy Kitty warmth. :D THANK YOU, Mommy and Stacy and Michelley!

And... LOL... Mom, Jesús es el Señor had us all laughing. The Assistant told me he laughed for like an hour when he saw my package. It´s awesome because it´s true! (and plus it just sounds very Evangelical. Which probably made it better.)

Well... Evelyn was going to get baptized this coming Saturday, but she didn´t come to church this Sunday. She is so excited for her baptism and to tell her Evangelical Pastor father... Not exactly sure about why, but he hates mormons and she´s really excited to tell him. Lol. But anyhow, she´ll for sure get baptized the 29th. She´s awesome, as is her son Matias.

What else? Oh. OCHO MESES!?! WHAT?! Today I finished my eighth month in the mission. Weird. Next month I´ll be halfway done...

Weird.

Read Alma 32. Again. And have a pen and paper nearby, cause it´s deep stuff. And then read Romans 8. ... Not related at all, but also awesome. And James 2. Oh, wait... just read one of them. LOL. But they´re all great.

Chilean like porotos

Hola a todos!

We had a rather interesting week, as well. We(Mike, Karen, Cheryl, Ryan, Ashby and Stacy with some of Jared and Michelle) went camping and scouting for possible reunion sites for the Loveless reunion that will be held next July. We also had some fun on the Bishop's part-time fishing boat. We camped at Strawberry Reservoir and it was beautiful!

Anyways, we(Karen & Michelle & Jared& Jason) will be starting school in 13 days. I actually have to go back to help my teacher, in 8 days. So, apparently, Summer is coming to an end...

Hola, Mamita y mas!

This week has been super crazy. Hna Cuellar and I made tacos with some members

today, which has made us unfortunately tardy from P-day... sooooo....
I'm gonna have to leave you guys hanging a bit. However, know that
I am happy and safe and that we're teaching a lot of really good people.

I Love Temuco.

The landscape is very different. Think rolling ireland hills with Andes vol-
canoes within sight... though quite far... And with ghetto Chilean houses
in the meantime. I say ghetto because it would be ghetto there, but... the

fact is that they're quite normal.

I'm way excited that we're in charge of the next fam reunion!! And

I should get home right in time! Yay! Chilenos bake... but mostly fry.
Most sweet things are a form of fried bread. There are also cakes... but
.. homebaked cookies don't exist.

Chilean ahad is like taco bell hot sauce... but better.

Out of small things

Hola familia y amigos!!!

Well, as you will read, Amy has been transferred about 4-5 hours south of where she has been working. She sounds good and we are grateful that she has been able to do the things she is. I hope that all of you are well. I am doing much better...a little better every day! I hope that I will be able to get all of the things done that I need to do before we go back to school. The students will start three weeks from today! We are working hard to get things done AND we are trying to keep ahead of the weeds. We are starting to get things from our garden more regularly! I love growing things!

Out of small things...great things shall come to pass.

This saturday we got a call... well, like we always do the last week of transfers, and... They´re closing San Pedro! This means that for awhile all those people whose doors we´ve knocked at shall remain relatively unbothered. The Assistants are going to work it for awhile and... yup. Happens.

The mission is getting less missionaries for awhile. 16 missionaries are going home this transfer, and only six are coming, so that means that the president has to close 5 sectors... and two of them are sister sectors, even though we´re gonna continue on with 21 sisters. Hermana Holt is going to Kaupolican (o algo asi), where there are elders currently, and I´m going to Padre de las Casas, which is a little city outside of Temuco. Both of those are pretty far south, so... good times. I´ll be in a different Region of Chile, which is a bit like a state, but to give you a better Idea, it´ll be about 4-5 hours in bus, which means It´s about the same distance from Cedar to Home.

I´m going to serve with Hna Cuéllar. She´s from Mexico! Whee!

Okay, so... Cheryl e-mailed me with some good questions:

Do you make cookies there?
-No. But I want to. Someone should send me a cookie recipe.

Can you find the same ingredients down there?
-Not always. Like... no one´s even HEARD of chocolate chips, even though they come in some granola bars here. We found Butterscotch chips in Líder, which made me think of camp. There´s also lots of ingredients here which I know will be harder to find when we get there, like Chilean Ají. It´s some spicy powdery stuff. Yummers.

Do you and or your companions cook much?
-Hermana Holt and I cooked about once a week. The fact is, unlike the missionaries in the states we only get two assigned mealtimes in a day... Breakfast in the morning, and lunch at 1:30 with the members. Chileans don´t do dinner. They eat HUGE lunches and then sometimes eat sandwiches for "Onze"... elevensies! So sometimes Hna Holt and I make pasta right before we go to bed... which is yummy, but bad for your digestion, so we don´t do it often.

Do you have a full size stove/oven?
-Í´m actually not sure that it´s normal to have a fullsized stove or oven. Most apartments have at propane stovetop at least. Cerro Verde had an oven about the size of the one in the trailer. San Pedro and the Marina just have a stove top with two... firethings. What do you even call that part where you put the frying pan?

Do they hold sacrament meetings the same down there?
-Yes. Sacrament Meeting is first, then Sunday School, then Relief Society and the whole shebang. Sometimes the meetings are a little less... organized, but they always work out for the best.

How many wards/sectors do you cover at a time?
-I´ve never heard of missionaries in our mission covering more than one ward... except the Assistants, who are now going to cover San Pedro and Lomas Coloradas. Sometimes there are multiple pairs of missionaries in one ward, but I´ve never been in one. Maquehue(spelling?) is the name of the ward where I´m going in Padre de las Casas, and there are two sets of missionaries there. The elders and us.

Mom´s questions:

¿Cómo esta mi español, mama?
-Esta bien. Hermana Holt y yo hablamos lo mejor Spanglish del mundo, pero también he aprendido muchas reglas de español otra vez por causa de ella. Estaba estudiando inglés antes de la misión, entonces le gusta corregir mis congugaciones y cosas.

Why were the firemen walking? Did their truck break down?
No! That´s the funniest part! We were around the corner from the firestation, and the siren sounded and the truck sped around the corner. About two minutes later, five or six firemen ran around the corner and started hitchiking. People stopped, picked them up, and followed the truck. I´m not sure why... I do know the truck looked smaller than American ones. perhaps there´s not enough space in there for all of them?

Oh... and seriously, I´d love to recieve a recipe for awesome cookies.
We´re gonna just chop up a candybar instead of use chocolate chips.

Tender Mercies

Hello everyone!

How are all of you? We are back home. Our trip was safe and fun. Mine was a great rest. We had an awesome time visiting with our families. I am officially released by my doctor! We hope that all of you are well and happy! I thank all who kept me in their prayers. I have been overall 100% better since the doctor removed my gallbladder!!!

San Pedro is one of those sectors people call "Hard," And it´s not really because the people are richer than most of Chile, or because the ward area wise is quite large, but because it´s just got that reputation. I´ve had to learn to look for the little things. The little tender mercies that the Lord sends me. Like one day this week we saw FIREMEN hitchhiking. And we also saw a man driving his car with A LUCHO LIBRE MASK. .. And not just silly things, but also scriptures I´ve found here, letters I´ve recieved, and things I´ve learned about myself and my capacities.

I encourage you all to look for them. Just be patient, have a little faith, and when all seems to go a little dark... look around for a wrestling-masked stranger... or maybe you could open up your scriptures and read. Search for a certain topic. Something you´re struggling with, or just love to read about, and follow where the reference leads you.

And then take a moment to realize that the most important act of all time was an act of forgiveness. Forgive someone. It´s easier than you think. Forget. Love. Give.

Family Reunion

Here is our sister's email of the week. We all where were in Cali for the weekend for the 53rd (I think) consequetive Loveless Family Reuion. We missed our sister, but are so glad that she can serve the people in Chile. Mom is doing well. Thanks for your well wishes and prayers.

First off, HAPPY LOVELESS REUNION WEEKEND!!! Hope you all got wet! If not, go back and get wet FOR ME. :D

Second off, we had interviews and companion exchanges this week. At interviews we found out that because there will be 20 less elders in the mission next year(twenty will leave and not be replaced), the president´s gonna have to change some sectors and close others. This transfer might be interesting! Also, I got a package from MELANIE SMITH!!! Thanks! And some other stuff from various people like Russell McDonald... and... yeah. Good times.

Hermana Holt and I found several new people this week that we think can progress and go to church this coming Sunday. This week two guys came who have investigated the church for a long time and just really like to watch and not get involved. Juana was on vacations with the rest of you.

Companion exchanges are when you trade companions for a day with some other missionary. I was with Hermana Paz. Sadly, I forgot to take any photos when she was there. Though it did give us an opportunity to take photos of the Z Club... see photo.

Hmmn... what else? We went bowling again. And to the bumper cars.That was fun. And I´m on the search for the best nylons ever that NEVER BREAK! Because I keep going through them in a matter of days which is lame. But you guys don´t care. haha. Ate a McDonald´s hamburger today. Oh SNAP!

A pain in the galbladder?!

Wow. Hello all, and welcome to Sis. Loveless´ modern life.

First off, Please send all sorts of hugs and love to the Ready family in Downey, and also to Mommy. I´m glad the Galsurgery went alright, and I´m also glad that Michelle had an EXCELLENT birthday party... and can I use your bike when I get home? Bikes are amazing. I want one here in the mission. Believe it or not, it IS possible in a skirt.

As to my week in San Pedro, I took out my very own Chilean Carnet today which is an ID card. The Carabineros(Chilean mounted Police) "pulled us over" and asked us about why we were and such. Mostly just out of curiousity, I think, though I did get all sorts of nervous. I didn´t have my carnet yet and was nervous they´d send me home. I also think the younger one asked whether or not we could have boyfriends about three times and later this week when we were at the shoerepair place, they pulled up and he popped out and said, "How are the two most beautiful women in Chile today?" That was funny.

We got my boots all repaired, which had been suffering from talking shoe disease, and then today I bought a warm purple sweater that I´ve been wanting for awhile, then swore off buying anything else for a long time. It´s hard though, because Hermana Holt is one of those excellent shoppers... and also saved up quite a bit more than I did before the mish to buy stuff while she´s here.

... We´re going to the office today, so I should get any mail that you´ve all sent. Also, it´s been confirmed that I DO have a package, and I don´t know who it´s from so... THANK YOU. I love you.

I´m making mom a card tonight when we get home, I should send it out soon. I found out that the post office in San Pedro is CHEAPER than the one in Concepción. Not sure how that´s legal or possible, but it´s true.

Hope all goes well at the Family Reunion, and tell everyone that I love them so much. Never let go of the family ties that hold us together, and also watch out for my WATERFIGHT SKILLS!!!! Okay, so I´m kinda lame at waterfights, but enjoy it well in my stead. And Mommy... take care.

Here comes the 4th

Well, Helloooooooo!
We have had a busy but, great week. Lots of cleaning.(Weird, I don't know where that came from.) Jared & Stacy(& Max^x^) moved in to live with us for a few months. Mike and I were volunteers for our city's 4th parade. As usual, there was an F-16 flyover...so awesome!!! We are sending Amy another package to help her get through the winter! some beanies and scarves, etc. We hope that all of you are well and happy.

Hello everyone!Hola a todos!

I don´t really know what to write about this week. We had an excellent Zone Conference last week, and Hna Holt and I are still Wheeling over that one. One of the best things we learned was from a quote by Joseph Smith. He said that faith is a composition of 3 things:

1. That you believe God exists
2. Understanding the attributes of God.
3. Doing His will. Going towards the Light and not looking back.

I always enjoy scriptures on faith, and these three things definately go along with the definition of faith in the New Testament as well as in the Book of Mormon. Ether 12:6 and Alma 32.

We are trying to improve our own faith. We also learned how to be better missionaries and more focused on our true purpose here.

It continues to rain. But it´s warmer when it rains, so I´m alright. Wet, but alright. I´m trying to put three Pictures this time to make up for the past few times. We´ll see if it Works. But the computer was being really slow, so we´ll see. I´m putting one picture of all of us before Carlos´ Baptism. Hna Sullivan and Hna Richardson, Carlos, Me, and Hna Holt. One of Hermana Holt and her birthday card I made her to prove I´m not discarding my artistic skills, and one of Me and a dog, mostly so you can see my new haircut. It´s the dog that follows the other Hermanas everywhere, and sleeps outside our door sometimes. I don´t know why because we tried giving it some dog food and it didn´t even like it.

Juana continues to come to church with us. We don´t even talk about baptism very much, but she always brings it up and says something like, “I just don´t feel like I need to yet, and I know it´s something you ought to want to do, so I don´t want to do it yet.”

She´s so cute. She has four dogs that she takes to the vet regularly, and two cats. She also occasionally feeds two street dogs, cause there are a lot of them here. She´s a sweet old lady with a big heart. I just can´t wait to see her with a bigger certainty of what she already says is what she needed and needs.

Happy 4th of July!

Hello Family! First off, my lack of math skillz was caught YET AGAIN by my mother: 2-How many siblings does she have? 3. Two bros, 3 sis. MOM: So is it 3 total --2 bros and 1 sis Or 5 total-2 bros &3 sis? She has 2 brothers and one sister. :D preguntas nuevas*** Has she lived in Murray all her life? No. She was born in Texas. They lived there until she was 10 or something. Where does she fit in her family? She´s number 2. Her older brother is happily married, the brother just younger than her is 19 and also on a mission in Texas, and her little sister is 17 like Michelle... will be in A FEW DaYS! :D What does she want to do when she grows up? ;) She wants to be an editor for one of the Church magazines. This week was a tough one. When it rains, the people just kinda shake their heads at us and tell us to go inside and stop bothering people. They do the same thing when it´s dark. So we try to avoid knocking doors when it´s dark, but since winter=rain in chile, we can´t really avoid doing so in the rain. It amazes me how much people every day look at us like we´re crazy and just shove their doors shut in our face. All we have to do is say, "Hello, we´re missionaries..." and then it closes. They don´t understand what the few do. That we´re not just crazy college students who are crazy about Jesus and want to tell the whole world about it. (Though that is definately true), We´re in the Work of the Lord. We´re here to help them find what they can´t find anywhere else. The fullness of the everlasting Gospel of Jesus Christ, Lord and Savior of mankind. I know that I can´t convince them of anything with my words alone. They´re just words, and it´s not a convincing they need. It´s a conversion. A change of heart. A change of mind. So that they can understand they´re OWN potential in this life. That they are literal children of a Heavenly Father who loves them so much that he sent his Son to suffer for us, and that he has restored the fulness of his Plan for us through latter-day prophets like Moses and Noah of old. I love this work. But it´s not easy. There are a lot of people out there with questions we can help answer. We just have to have enough faith to find them. Continue in your quest for faith. This life is a journey, not a destination. Keep progressing. Keep learning. Keep asking. James 1:5-6. He answers prayers. Grow your faith. Don´t stop believing. SIX MONTHS. WHAT???

OK...Here is our favorite Hermana and her reply/update for the week. In case you didn't know...She has been out a little over 6 months. She will come home in July of next year. She works hard and is trying to help bring others to the gospel of Jesus Christ. She is in Chile to serve God. She gets a chance once a week to do some sightseeing. We know that she is doing all she can to serve our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We know that this is something all of the Lord's children need. We hope that you are seeking the way to follow Him. SOOOO... First off... HAPPY FATHERS DAY YESTERDAY!!! And... Michelle I sent off your birthday card--- or will soon.

Also, Just so you all know, I only usually tell you about my P-day, which isn´t fair since the rest of the mission is NOTHING LIKE IT. The work is HARD. We knock on doors aaall day long and few people do so much as open their door and then its rare they´ll keep it open long enough to hear, "Hola, mucho gusto! Somos misioneras de la Iglesia de Jesucristo de los Santos de los Ultimos Dias." And even fewer are ready to search, ponder, and pray. As the scriptures say, "Many are called, but few are chosen." We call, and they choose to listen. Very rarely. But we´re searching for the few. And we never pretend to believe everyone has a soft heart, willing to listen and pray for an answer. I of course want all of God´s Children to listen, but I can do little if they do not want to.

But I love it.

Mom asked some questions:
1-Where is Hermana Holt from? Murray, Utah
2-How many siblings does she have? 3. Two bros, 3 sis.
3-How long has she been on her mission? 10 months.

If you know any other things you would like to tell me...that would be nice!

She and I are like two little peas in a pod. Except... she is way more informed on shopping and music and other popular things.

4-How did the baptism for Carlos go?GREAT. As things in Chile always seem to run, it started a bit late, but in the end, everyone was happy and Carlos made that first step into the one way, one step closer to our Heavenly Father. And Juana was happy as well. She´s our other investigator.
5-How did the fireside with Elder Oaks go?AWESOME. We couldn´t shake hands with him, but we COULD and DID bump elbows with him. It actually made me laugh really hard. The talk was great, but as I don´t have my notes with me, I kinda forgot.

Here comes that rainy day feelin' again

Hola a todos! Hello everybody!!!
I am sorry that I didn't get this sent off yesterday. I am trying to get myself into gear! We are driving down to Cherry Hill(a campground/water park) to take Ashby for her first trip ever!!! For our kids...this is big! We went the first time when Cheryl was younger than Ashby. Then, every vacation trip that took us through Northern Utah...we stopped another time! This will be our first trip since we moved to Utah. So, we are excited and have lots to do BEFORE we leave.
So, we are trying to dry out from the humongous amount of rain that we have had in the last few weeks! Today, there is sun....again! Thank you Lord. It is hard because, I know that the farmers need rain but, it was getting depressing. We are supposed to get some more this week. However, we are going to move forward and go right ahead with our Cherry Hill plans!

Mom... If you could send me any scarf, I would DIE for a rainbow one. But I actually bought two scarves in the last week, and one was light blue and the other purple and green... therefore, I´d say a good choice would be a light froggish green, violet, or RAINBOW. But it´s cool. Rainbow I probably wouldn´t be able to wear very often, but it would still be AWESOME. I actually really need thick tights, but I´m pretty sure I can buy them here. And more sweaters, but those are also a better buy here I think...

... Moving on.

So Hermana Holt is like a mixture of K´Leena Murphy and Rachel Buswell... which if you know either of those people, you know she comes out as AWESOME. Plus, she´s a little different than both of them which makes it so I´m not completely weirded out by the awesome combination. We´re great friends already, and we are ready and excited for a great time here in San Pedro. We´ve already found some promising people, ready to learn more about the Gospel of Jesus Christ and change their lives! Some people get scared of change, but... as the Beatles once sang, "It´s getting better all the time!" And that kind of change is always good, right? Right.

I got the shirt to Hna Nuñez, whose actually sitting next to me currently. It´s great, we always run into other missionaries downtown.

This week is going to be awesome. Thursday at about 8, Carlos is getting baptized, and then Friday night we´re having a joint fireside with the other mission to hear Elder Dallin H. Oaks talk! YAY!

I think today´s kinda short, but know I´m happy and progressing and that God ALWAYS answers prayers. Sometimes we just aren´t listening or looking in the right places.

The Lord's Hand is in all things

Hola a todos!
It sounds like our favorite hermana has had a pretty awesome week! Packages, letters, announcements, etc.
Also, she is going to have a new companion. Hopefully, the Lord will bless all of these sisters! I know that we will see the Lord's hand in all of these changes. I hope that all of you are well and happy! I am really excited because for Mother's day, Mike built me a garden box.(It was extremely necessary because the top of our garden plot was 20" lower than the top. So, while he was building and preparing the box, I planted seeds in egg cartons. Today, we finished replanting. My peas are about 5-7". Most of the other things are very small but, it is very exciting because most of the other years, most of my seeds/plants must have washed down the hill. We have lettuce, broccoli, carrots, squash, tomatoes(they were established plants) and a few other things. I may even try to plant corn again. Anyway, I am really enjoying my time out of school and I love that we are actually taking all of the weeds done. I hope and pray that all of you are well. I am grateful for the weekly reminders from Hermana Loveless to Choose the Right!

HOLA FAMILIARES!!

Yes!! Package recieved! And I love the shirts! And chocolates! And photos on my other memory card! Sounds like the Chilean winter went to Utah. 36 hours of RAIN? What kind of Utah Summer is this? Well, I guess it´s still springish. But camp started this week, so... I pity those campers. Thanks for all the mail! This week I got letters from a lot of people... and it included a wedding invitation to the DANI and KELLY WEDDING! Eek! So cute! They´re all married and stuff! Que felíz

Carlos´date for baptism is Thursday the 18th. He´s still gung-ho and all that. This kid waited quite a while before finally making the commitment, which makes us pretty sure he´s not going to change his mind.

This weekend was pretty exciting. Saturday night we got a call from the Assistants to the Mission President. Apparently, the president decided to have an early transfer with a lot of the sisters. Hermana Richardson is going to Nacimiento, a little town somewhere in the Campo(Country), and Hermana Holt is going to goin me in San Pedro on Tuesday. :) There are mixed feelings here, because we´re all mostly confused, but I´ve always heard good things of Hermana Holt, and I´m excited to meet her. Hermana Richardson still has 9 more months of her mission, so it´s rather likely that we can be companions again. But we´ll see.

Sunday was testimony meeting, which means all the members of the ward can get up and share their feelings towards Christ and the Gospel. One member of our Ward is Schitzoprenic and seems to have forgotten to take his medicine, because he got up there and started preaching hellfire and damnation like the Jeremiad preachers of the eighteenth century. It was a little awkward until the Bishop´s counselor passed him a note and he threw it and stomped out of the chapel. And then about five priesthood holders got up and bore their strong testimonies.

Yay for Ashby´s birthday party and Cherry Hill and the greatest funspot you´ll ever know!I´m glad that everything´s going well at home. HAPPY BIRTHDAY ASHBY! Tomorrow you´re three!! And there´s a card in the mail just for you! Wish I´d known about the flower theme... oh well!

I actually have no idea what chifflon means. It must be some name for wind or cave or mine, because yes, it is a mine. I left that out, didn´t I?

I´m almost out of time and I still want to add pictures and I need to write the president.

Chiflon del Diablo

Hello to everyone!
We are out of school! Michelle and I are for now. Today, we finally got our tomato plants planted into our garden. The seeds I planted in egg cartons are doing fairly well although the pill bugs are trying to eat them. I put stuff to get rid of the bugs. So, my car is clean for the first time in a very long time...and it will be going to California on Wednesday. Cheryl, Ryan, Ashby, Ken, Preston and Alisha are going to California to see Jordan(Ryan and Preston's brother/Ken's son) graduate from High school. They are using our car. We are using Ken's truck...thanks!
So, we are hoping all of you are doing well and know that we think of your often and are happy to hear about what you are doing. I think that I may get my yard looking as happy as I want it to look. Also my house!!! YAY!

Hola, Familiares!

So today we are in Lota... which is... somewhere about an hour away from my area in a bus. We came here to tour an old mine. It´s called chiflon del Diablo, and it was pretty wickedly awesome. And when I say wicked, I mean really really awesomely awesome. Not Wicked in the ruby slippers witch of the east sort of sense.

YAH. Photos. First one is an adorable rendition of Hermana Richardson and I sporting our miner gear, and the second is at our Zone Meeting... and I look quite ugly, but that´s beyond the point. It´s basically so you can see the mix of Gringos versus Latinos here in the mission. There´s a total of five white girls and I´ve got one of them as my companion. There are more Elders that are gringos, but that´s because there´re more Elders in general.

Life is good, because not only do we have the aid of two ward missionaries, but we also had a Family home Evening at the ward and watched The Testaments of One Fold and one Shepherd, had a Zone conference with Elder Corbridge of the Seventy presiding, and a baptism date for Carlos.

...What? Did I say BAPTISM? Yessir, I did. Carlos is the boyfriend of Romina who is a member, and her mother Ingrid cooks us delicious food every saturday for lunch and at all the major mission activities here in the North sector because she works in the Mission Home. Tonight we are going to have another Family Home Evening at the Mission Home with Carlos to make sure to teach him well what he already knows is true. :D! Yay!

Baptism is the gate to the path to eternal life. Look up Juan... er... John 3:5 I think? My brain cot confused by the translation process. But just because you´re baptized doesn´t do anything to guarantee you eternal life. What´s even more important is what happens after baptism. Enduring to the end. See Revelations 1 or 2, I think. As well as many excellent ones in the Book of Mormon.

I found out at our Zone Conference with Elder Corbridge that 9 of 10 Chilean Mormons are not active in the church. So yes, the work is different here. But I love it. And I wouldn´t trade it any day for something else. I´m learning so much each day.

Thanks for all your prayers, love, and letters.I should get the package this Wednesday, Mom. We have interviews then. :D

(this is what I understand). So, happy

now, grateful for those who serve to protect our precious freedom and help others gain the

same. Thanks to my dad and uncles(Oris and Butch), my Uncle Phil, and to our Krystie's hubby,

our friends Matt, David, Ryan and I am sure there are others...I know that there are others on

the Loveless side. Thank you. We pray for you. We(I) also always remember our other loved

ones who have passed out of this life. God bless you all! We miss you so much.

Michelle and I are VERY anxious to have school end. In all actuality, no one is really learning much but, we must attend school for 4 more days. Then, we shall say...Huzzah!! Hip..hip Hurrah!!!!We pray that all of you are well and know that we love and think of you often!Mike and Karen and family!

Hola, Mamita lindita! (Y mas!)

Yes, we have a lot of good days here in the mission. Sure, it´s not always the spiritual high that people think it is, but the work is hard and the life is good. More than anything else, I´m learning more about God´s children. That includes myself. We teach so many people each day, and yet so many others that just shake their finger at us through the window at us. But I know that God is preparing people to listen, and more than that, that the people of this congregation need us. That´s an interesting tidbit I never knew about the mission before. As missionaries, we aren´t only here to help people come unto Christ who aren´t members of our faith, but also to help encourage those who are part of it to strengthen their relationship with their heavenly father and endure to the end.

Happy Memorial day! Here in Chile they just had a day off, too. It was something like Memorial Day, really. There was a war between Chile and Peru some hundred years ago or something and they celebrate the 21 of May for the day they won the Huascar from Peru. That´s the ship we went to a few weeks ago. Vamos, ¡Chile!

Lol. Yeah, Mom. I´ve already had a lot of Best Two Years moments... that in the end didn´t work out quite as excellently as in the movie, but I´m still praying and working towards one just as awesome.

Yeah, the other day actually we did a contact in English. This tipsy young man came out to meet us at his front gate and when we said, "Hola," He said, "Oh. You guys speak English. I can speak English if you want to." It was weird. And cool. Only he isn´t American, but he´s worked in the US before. A lot of Chileans seem to go to the states for work occasionally. I guess they must make enough in five months working all day and night that the plane trip to and from is nothing compared to the money they make. It´s odd.

Juanita and Pablo her son came to church this week, along with Carlos, a long time investigator, and the father of a member who is not a member himself. That was nice.

Quica is a chilean word that, yes, means rich. Jejeje. Not all of them are all that rich, though there is a family in our ward that has a huge painting of their daughters on their living room wall. It´s all impressionistic and quite pretty. I like it.

I´m glad you guys got my letters, and I´d like to thank Becky, Bryan, and Kate for their ginormous envelope of photos and love. It made me happy. :D I´m glad you guys went to Disneyland and In-N-Out and such. And I´m glad school´s out. :D

Happy Grandma day to Auntie Theresa, and Happy Dad day to Marcus!!!!!!!!!!Congrats to everyone in my family all having children--- wow! Marcus, Amanda, new cousins and second cousins everywhere! Sweet! And Congrats Megan for the big news!!!

And... so... someone Krystie knows is coming to my mission... as well as someone Aunty Ceesa knows? Wow. Cool beans. My mission pretty much rocks. I know. Haha.

This week we have Zone Conference, so I´ll get the package if it´s here yet... as well as any letters anyone´s sent recently. I love getting packages and letters!

Hello there everyone!
How are you? We made a quick trip to Colorado over the weekend. We were able to see Adam's new home and we were able to see his graduation from electrician school. We also met Denise's(his girlfriend) parents and thoroughly enjoyed our visit.We arrived back home very late(midnightish) and went about our regular routine(most of us) anyways. It sounds like Hmna Loveless is doing well and is happy in the work she is doing! We are trying to get our yard and garden up and running for the summer. We are happy and glad to be back to our own beds.
Jason ran the 1/2 marathon( Ogden) on Saturday and drove with a friend to Sacramento afterward. He is a bit crazy...awesome and amazing, but CRAZY!

Well, I hope you finally got the letter from last week.

I am safe and sound and speaking English occasionally in San Pedro. It´s not really that close to the beach for those of you who were wondering. I actually can´t see the beach from here, but I know it´s close.

We had one investigator in the church this Sunday. Juana is a retired nurse who has an adopted son 19 years old. She´s really interested in learning more about the church, and wants to continue learning. She always does what she says she´ll do, which is awesome in contrary to the people we were working with before.

My companion, Hermana Richardson is awesome. She´s from Colorado Springs and we´re great buddies already, probably because she was companions with Hermana Nuñez(Argentinan) before and they were great buddies… so why not! She´s been having a hard time sleeping at night, so if anyone has any suggestions minus sleeping pills or benadryl, go for it.

San Pedro is more like an American suburb than Hualpen was. Which means… it´s a quica area. These people are pretty rich. They have cars and nannys… Cars having been very rare in my other area and nannys non-existant. We actually talk alot with people who just work here as nannys.

But, yeah, life is good.

The church is true.
